Blogging about the new www.wfu.edu

What’s next?

The challenge now is to take what was produced on a short deadline and make it an ongoing process.

We plan to gather feedback, tweak design and code, launch new pages and add new stories, photos and functionality. In short, we have to evolve to consistently reflect the University’s people and programs, supporting the concept of the Collegiate University.

How do we get there? The list is long, but the starting point is obvious: We will start by again reaching out across the campus to keep others involved. As we do, we’ll be focused on firming up the new design and searching for a content-management system. At some point, those will come together as templates and tools to be shared across the University.

This is a small step forward on a long road of improvement. We hope it’s a fun and productive trip.

Please pass along my compliments to the Office of Creative Services for the new web page design! It looks fresh and information-packed, while at the same time offering a user-friendly face. It’s an almost impossible task to meet such conflicting goals.

    Congratulations!

Great job! I really like the look and functionality of the new design.

I want to offer my sincerest compliments and congratulations on the new design. As a current student, I have been waiting for this redesign for the past three years and am glad that I will be able to utilize the improved functionality of the new design while still an undergrad. Great work to all! I will continue to look out for new updates and improvements in the coming days, weeks, and months.

I like the new format, but hopefully one of the changes you will be considering is for the “Window on Wake Forest” page. That idea was great and still is, but I feel that it could be expanded and redesigned as well.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. We really appreciate the feedback.

Hinton, we are definitely going to be redesigning the whole news presence on the site, including Window on Wake Forest, the News Service and the magazine. Those items have a lot more “working parts” to them, so we couldn’t tackle them in the first phase. But you should see those improve soon as well.

As an undergrad student, I am usually only a witness to the student page. I stumbled across it by accident, and let me say this: I absolutely love it. A lot of the undergraduates are truly pleased and impressed by the new site. Creative Services — keep up the great work!

Will Wake Forest’s School of Medicine web page undergo a new design and format? I think it would be terrific if it did, it will draw much more attention. Terrific job so far on the homepage, I’m a big fan.

  • Matt Says:

Are there any plans to launch a mobile friendly site?

  • Ryan Eanes Says:

I definitely think you guys are headed in the right direction, but I’d encourage you to be careful about the size of the images you’re using on the homepage (in terms of the file size, not necessarily screen size). I’m using a T1 connection, and even with that fast of a connection, the rotating photos don’t always fully load before the next photo pops up.
